Today’s athletes face increasing demands on their time. As sports become more and more competitive, athletes must work harder and harder on their training to maintain a competitive edge. As training time increases, however, so also does the stress of managing daily day-to-day tasks such as school, work, and home life. This increase in demands and stress can lead to negative effects on and off the field for the athlete, such as reduced game performance, slipping grades, anxiety, and situational unawareness that can ultimately lead to detrimental physical and mental safety effects.
Our unique and innovative program provides a healthy outlet for students to learn how to find a balance in their lives while improving their physical and mental states. Traditional far-eastern philosophies center around finding balance. Opposing forces, like the Ying and the Yang, or nature’s desire to reach harmony, such as high pressure moving to low pressure, show us how the cycle of finding balance is a continuous process where harmony and calm can be found at the intersection of the two forces. Much like nature, our lives are a continuous process of trying to return to a state of balance as we face pressures that constantly work to disrupt the balance in our lives. In our program, students will work on physical training while merging aspects of martial arts training that focus on the awareness of self. Through this practice, students will find that they are better able to focus on the given moment and to filter out the extraneous thoughts and inputs going on around them. This translates to them being able to make faster decisions in their sport and filter out negative or doubtful thoughts about their perceived performance.
Additionally, in today’s increasingly chaotic world, students will learn practical self-defense techniques that, when combined with self-awareness, can help them feel more confident in their ability to avoid and, if needed, escape from a dangerous situation. Unlike traditional fitness classes or individual gym sessions, our classes focus on creating an environment that is free from distraction and common social conversations so that our students can focus on themselves and their mental and physical growth.
